DOB and I have been watching The Lord of the Rings for the fourth (or more) time, in slow, brief stages, stopping it to analyze differences between the books and movies, debate motivations and plausibility, note subtle allusions.
DOB: Maybe tonight we can get most of the way through the boring part, with all that time in Lothlorien and floating down the river.
QOC: What do you mean, get through it? What's left after that part?
DOB: The battle.
QOC: That is the boring part!

I am SO with DOB on this one.
On the other side, Sara has frequently expressed her disappointment that Jackson didn't just ignore the battle and go for a tour around Amon Hen, the glimpses of which we get seem far cooler to her than scenes of Boromir being St. Sebastian-ized.
A rousing "Amen!" to QOC!!
My main issue with Lothlorien in the movie was that it wasn't long enough... They didn't really go into the Gimli/Galadriel thing the way the book did, and they changed Sam's gift. I would have liked to have seen the actual giving of the gifts, too. Ah, well, can't please everybody!
Arrgh! The changing of Sam's gift! Even though they were planning on leaving out the Scouring of the Shire (and don't get me started on that) the gift of Lothlorien's earth would still have been deeply meaningful.
